Hackney Wildlife at the Lea Valley Wildlife Weekend 2009

Hackney Wildlife were pleased to be invited once again to run a presentation stand at this year's Lea Valley Wildlife Weekend, at the Waterworks nature reserve. This year we decided to combine our efforts with our good friends the London Natural History Society, and the event was a great success.

Presenter and naturalist Mike Dilger joined us on Saturday, and discussed the possibilities of filming certain species and locations in the borough for upcoming programming. Watch this space....

The Lea Valley Wildlife Weekend 2008, held at The Waterworks Nature Reserve off Lea Bridge Road, was a great success, with the Hackney Wildlife Group's presentation stand proving popular with visitors from near and far.

Over a thousand people came through the gates on Saturday alone, and many came into HWG's stand to talk to Mark and Paul about the group's projects, local surveys and upcoming events.

Well-known to most from their television appearances, Simon King and Chris Packham, guest speakers at the event, both dropped in to lend support to the group, enthusiastically discussing HWG's aims and objectives.

Local residents were equally supportive, enthusiastically signing up for our free regular newsletter, the first of which will be used to launch several borough-wide surveys this summer.

It was also a useful opportunity to meet with other local and national wildlife groups, discuss our plans and begin to form mutually beneficial working relationships in what should be an exciting and busy first year.

HWG would like to thank Simon, Neil and all at the LVRPA for their support and assistance throughout the event.
