Monthly ornithological summary for: July 2009
Common Crossbill - two low over Stoke Newington Reservoirs, 30th;

Hobbys - Clissold Park, 2nd; SNR, 6th, 7th; Lower Clapton, 9th.
As is often the case in mid-summer, a quiet month with little to report.
Again, coverage remained at an enviably high level, especially at the cluster of sites in the north of the borough; but again, July resolutely failed to provide many surprises, and surveying breeding activities took precedent locally.
The very end of the month, however, did at least yield an unexpected flyover record; a minor influx of Common Crossbills into the UK occurred during July, and two were good enough to coast over the treetops at the East Reservoir on the 30th.
